Delegation from the Al Nahrain University in Baghdad/Iraq visited Offenburg University of Applied science

The Professors, postgraduate students and lab assistances lectures from the College of Information Engineering (COIE) were guests of ivESK.

The Delegation was divided into two groups consisting of a total of eleven persons. The 1st group consisted of two professors and five postgraduate students, the 2nd group consisted of four assistant lecturers. They visited the Institute of Reliable Embedded Systems and Communication Electronics (ivESK) for one week and for two weeks, respectively.

The visit took place as part of Applied Research, Development & Teaching on Internet of Things for Sustainable, Secure, and Safe Communities” (ARTISSS) program which promotes collaboration between the two universities, exchange research ideas, build new Laboratory specialized in Embedded and IoT, update Curricula and empowering women in STEM field.

The nine-month project which begun in March 2022 is the first collaboration between the two universities and is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) as part of Ta’ziz partnership for democracy.

During their visit, the groups discussed further ideas of their research work and further collaboration in IoT Blockchain and TSN - 5G wireless aspects with Prof.Dr.-Ing. Axel Sikora and the whole ivESK team. They also had the opportunity to meet the rector of the Offenburg University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr. Stephan Trahasch, and the director of the International Center, Dr. Alexander Burdumy, and some faculty members. They also had the chance to meet the managers of LStelcom, which is a leading international telecommunication company specialized in spectrum efficiency. The group met and discussed with CEO Dr.-Ing. George Schöne and Dr.Witold Thaul about the company’s spectrum regulator solutions.

The second group ran several experiments with the lab equipment and tested it on development boards. Last but not least, all also enjoyed the sunny weather in their free time and visited various tourist locations in the city of Offenburg and in the black Forest region, such as Gutach, Strasbourg, Freiburg and Heidelberg.

This project is expected to be only the first step in a long-term collaboration between the two universities.
