In February 2024, funding was awarded from the Indo-German Science and Technology Centre (IGSTC) in its program for Small Immediate Need Grants (SING) for technology demonstration of a product. ivESK was awarded for its standardized, innovative and future-proof activities on International IoT Communication Testbed & Training (IICT). Now in March 2024, ivESK embarked on its mission to demonstrate and expand 5G/IoT educational and experimental testbeds in India.

The two main inventors Fabin Sowieja and Jubin Sebastian E conducted introductory technology demonstration visits to esteemed Indian institutions like the National Institute of Technology Calicut and Indian Institute of Information Technology Kottayam, and some private engineering colleges from Kerala. The IICT core team showcased the 5G/IoT testbeds and lab packages, assessing their applicability in the Indian academic market for hands-on training and applied research on different use cases. Following their institutional visits, the two researchers extended their outreach to the IGSTC office in New Delhi, engaging in discussions with Director Mr. R. Madhan and the team to explore avenues for further project expansion.

The next phase, scheduled for early May, will see ivESK’s Director Prof.Dr.-Ing Axel Sikora leading visits to additional Indian institutions across India for feasibility studies, potential establishment of selected Centers of Excellence (CoE), and collaborative product expansions.
